I own a 1700’s house that had a 30 year old roof with two significant leaks. I contacted four roofing contractors but Alex Bailey was the most impressive with his knowledge, understanding my wants and needs and had a very professional manner. The fact that he had the lowest price was also part of my decision in having him do the job. He was properly registered as a Home Improvement Contractor, had Liability Insurance and a written Contract. He obtained the proper permits with the town and the material was delivered with care and attention paid to my driveway and lawn.
On the day agreed to start the work a large truck arrived at 7:00 A.M. with a crew of men who immediately hung tarps to protect the house and plantings around the perimeter. Several men started stripping while others installed ice and water, underlayment and started installing shingles. They removed and replaced an area of the roof sheathing that had been damaged by the leaks. They obviously were familiar with the work and in one day, ending at 7: 00 P.M., shingled the entire roof with the exception of a front porch. The next day they returned and finished the entire roof, flashed the two chimneys and installed flashing for two skylights they had fabricated specifically for them the night before. The yard was left cleaner then when they came and they picked up every nail lost on the ground with magnetic retrievers.
All of the men were courteous, friendly and listened to any comments I made regarding the job and made minor adjustments I requested.
After the roof was finished, and I was completely satisfied with the work done, I informed Alex and the men that I have been in the construction business since the early 1950s as a contractor and was a Building Inspector for forty years, retired from the town of Avon as the Building Department Director. I have had contact with many construction workers and roofing contractors over the years and I can say this group of men was one of the best.
